Challenges you will potentially face during your training + as the day gets closer:

1. The volume of training

It’s hard to fit in to your daily life but you know you need to do it. It’s as much of a mental battle as it is a physical battle.

To drive home from work + all you want to do is sit of the sofa but what you have to do is get out in the rain + do 10 miles, is hard.

2. Niggles

We all get aches + pains from time to time.

When you are training for a marathon they do occur + it is natural to worry about them + think they may stop you from being able to run.

It is important to listen to your body + not keep pushing the training if you get an ache or a pain.

Simple things can make all the difference to help things settle:

> have a rest day   > don’t run as hard > stay well hydrated + fueled   > seek advice

3. Misery Management

Hard times will come, and go! By putting the hard miles in during training what you are doing in effect is managing your misery for the big day itself.

If you train well + put the hours in it should reduce the misery you will experience.

4. Maranoia

A word used by runners to describe that impending anxiety of actually doing the run. It’s normal to worry about thing but try hard not to. If you are prepared then that’s all you can do. Yes you will probably have a hard period during the run where you probably just want to give up but keep going + hard times generally do pass + things become easier again.

Enjoy the process + the training – that’s what we do it for!
